A fun filled day of exploration! An Expedition to Iriomote's Last Paradise
This tour to Iriomote's most remote inhabited region is not meant for the weak hearted. This is a full day of hiking, boat cruising and in the summer swimming & snorkeling. A local guide will lead you through the old mining settlements on Uchibanare Island and WWII caves used by the Japanese military in Funauki Village. The tour includes ferry transportation from Ishigaki Island, all transportation during the tour as well as a delicious lunch made entirely from local produce. The tour costs 17,500 yen for adults for an Ishigaki departure/return. Check with the staff for details on other departures & pricing.

A fierce-looking lion-like figure known as shisa, is visible on the roofs of both traditional houses and many modern dwellings, there to ward off evil spirits.
There is a funky shisa store that I found last week when I went to Yonehara beach.
(It is one of my favourite beaches on Ishigaki!!by the way)
